Highlights: 2011 England Women v USA

On this day in 2011, England beat the USA for the first time since 1988.

The USA Women's National Team (USAWNT) flew across to play a World Cup warm-up game in Leyton.

Their previous meeting - four years earlier - ended in a 3-0 defeat for the Lionesses and getting knocked out of the Women's World Cup in the quarter-finals. However, the victors went on to lose 4-0 to Brazil in the semi-final.

Much like today, the USAWNT was the top-ranked women's team in the world in 2011 and they went into the game as favourites to win. They had won their previous six consecutive matches and two warm-up tournaments - The Algarve Cup and Four Nations.

However, early goals by England wingers, Rachel Yankey and Jess Clarke set the hosts up for victory. Megan Rapinoe - who is still making waves in World Cup competitions to date - scored a consolidation goal later in the game but it wasn't enough.

Venue: Brisbane Road, Leyton Orient FC.

Attendance: 5,801.

Goalscorers: Jess Clarke (8), Rachel Yankey (26), Megan Rapinoe (39).
